We are so proud of our English Language Learner students in Grades 7 and 8. They participated with teachers Michele and Ogechi in a ten week Dance Residency celebrating and exploring African and African-American dance and music, led by the Phyllis Rose Dance Company. The residency supported students in learning dances from Africa and the African American experience in the United States, exploring the influence and impact of African dance on American culture, and learning the history and background of the dances. Students kept journals, participated in discussions relevant to the workshops, and learned dance and stage vocabulary. They then wrote and presented the introductions to the dances for the final performance.
