ANNOUNCEMENTS

Have a wonderful winter break – school resumes on Mon 1/5

  • Winter break is from Wed Dec 24 until Sun Jan 4
  • School resumes on Mon Jan 5

Tuesday Tiers Afterschool – there is no Tues Tiers on Tues 12/23

  • The semester ends in January.  Students should attend Tues Tiers with their teachers to revise assessments and aim for exemplary!
  • Tues Tiers is available weekly every Tuesday with all teachers from 3:05pm-4pm.
  • Note – there is no Tues Tiers on Tues 12/23

NYCPS – “fever-free for 24 hours” rule

  • Stay healthy, BCS!!!  Students/families, please note NYCPS policy that students must stay home with a fever (100°F/38°C or higher) and must be fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medicine before returning to school, with improving symptoms like no vomiting/diarrhea, to prevent spreading contagious illnesses like flu, COVID, or RSV. This “fever-free for 24 hours” rule, plus general improvement, is the standard guideline from health experts and school districts for safe return.

PTA Holiday Bazaar Crew Cookie Competition update

  • BCS community, thank you for making our first annual Holiday Bazaar such a tremendous success, and for turning the Crew Cookie Competition into a big highlight! We’re so grateful to our incredible bakers and dedicated tasting judges. After very difficult but delicious deliberation, we’re excited to announce our crew winners:
    • Most Festive: Chocolate Chip Tree (Mel’s Crew)
    • Best Flavor: Snickerdoodle (Christine’s crew)
    • Most Creative: House Sugar Cookie (Mel’s Crew)
    • Best Overall: Chocolate Chocolate Chip (Atiya’s crew)
  • Congratulations to all of the winners, and thank you again to everyone who baked, voted, and celebrated with us. We couldn’t have asked for anything sweeter!

Community food resources and please donate to our food drive

  • We are also collecting limited food donations to redistribute to our families.  We are accepting donations of these specific items below – please check expiration dates and drop off in Office 128.  We also appreciate any extra tote bags/Fresh Direct bags.
    • Canned goods (canned vegetables, canned beans, tuna) 
    • Pasta and pasta sauce
    • Peanut butter (or other nut butters)

SMASH Academy – intensive, hands-on STEM program for 10th/11th graders

  • Applications are open for SMASH Residential 2026! We’re looking for current 10th and 11th graders who are passionate about STEM, innovation, and making an impact. Join a vibrant community of peers and mentors committed to building the future of tech and science.
  • Program Dates: July 11 – July 31, 2026

  • SMASH Academy is an intensive, hands-on STEM program designed to help students deepen their curiosity, strengthen their skills, and explore pathways to STEM careers. Scholars participate in tuition-free, residential and virtual programming in partnership with leading colleges and universities across the country.
  • Throughout the program, scholars engage in project-based learning, explore computer science and technology, and connect with diverse facilitators and STEM professionals who share their backgrounds and experiences. As they go through the program, scholars not only develop their skills and network – they also further develop their voice & build the confidence to become who they want to be.
  • By the end of the program, SMASH scholars not only gain valuable academic and technical skills, but also develop their voice, leadership, and purpose as future innovators and problem-solvers.
