2025 Summer Arts Institute – free for Grades 8-12 students
- Admission to the Summer Arts Institute is by application and audition. Students may apply and audition for only ONE studio. Student Application Deadline: February 26, 2025, Virtual Audition Submission Deadline: March 2, 2025

- Summer Arts Institute is a free, four-week arts program for New York City Public School students entering grades 8 through 12 in Fall 2025 (students currently in grades 7 through 11). This intensive program is held at Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in Astoria, Queens. Summer Arts Institute is administered by the NYCDOE’s Office of Arts and Special Projects.
- Program Dates: July 7 – August 1, 2025
- Students can major in dance, theater, instrumental music, orchestral strings, vocal music, film, or visual arts. The program is designed for students at an intermediate or advanced level of study in their discipline. The daily schedule includes studio work and experiences with professional artists. In the studios, students develop and improve their technical skills and creative expression in their art form. Time is dedicated to rehearsals, attending professional performances, visiting arts venues and exploring careers. The Institute culminates with an exhibition and performance showcasing the students’ work.
Lucille Lortel Theatre’s NYC Public High School Playwriting Fellowship

Ladder Internships for High School Students
- Ladder Internships is a selective start-up internship program for high school students, founded and run by Harvard graduate students. In the program, students work with supervisors from top start-ups to work on real-world projects in a real start-up environment. Our companies and supervisors come from Harvard iLabs, Stanford, Google, Microsoft, and McKinsey & Company.
- No prior working experience is required. The application deadline for the Winter cohort is November 24th, here is the brochure and the application link.
Submit a story for the Digital Storytelling Project from WomensActivism.NYC
- Digital storytelling project initiated by the NYC Department of Records and Information Services. This project is dedicated to preserving the stories of remarkable women from around the globe. It’s easy to upload stories to our online platform, and once shared, they will be preserved in the city’s Municipal Archives to inspire future generations.
- Any stories your students submit (and we know they’re all looking for extra credit at this time of year) can help us to reach a major milestone. We have only 280 stories left to achieve our year-end goal of 10,000.
- These stories can spotlight women your students know personally, such as friends, family, colleagues and teachers, or celebrate historical or contemporary figures who have inspired them. They can profile anyone who has made a meaningful impact on their lives.
- If they’d like to write about a well-known public figure, please ask them to check the WomensActivism.NYC website first to ensure that the woman’s story hasn’t already been added. Students should also include references for their sources.
