BCS Student/Family Update – 1/25

Dear BCS Students/Families, we hope you are having a good snowy weekend!  Please stay inside and stay warm!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

No School – Mon Jan 26

  • This is a city-wide professional development day for HS and 6-12 schools.  There will be NO SCHOOL for BCS students.
  • Tues Jan 27 is the first day of spring semester. 

Parents – interested in volunteering?

  • We are looking for parents who are available Fridays 9am-10am to practice English conversation with some of our MLL students in the library – prompts/convo cards will be provided to parent volunteers.  
  • Please email Scill if interested in volunteering!

Wed 2/4 – Annual Parent Safety Meeting – virtual – 9am

  • In-person in Room 103 or Zoom link will be sent to any parents wishing to join remotely
  • Talk about any topics related to building safety with the BNS/BCS Cabinet

Wed 2/4 – Glasses 2 Classes Day

  • We have scheduled our glasses check day for all students on Wed 2/4 – if you need glasses, please make sure you are present on this day to be screened
  • More details to follow – all students who need glasses will get them

PROSE Half Days – Dismissal 11:15am – upcoming calendar days

  • BCS is a PROSE school, with special permission from the city to have additional in-person professional development with our staff.  This year’s PROSE Half Days are:
    • Fri 2/27
    • Fri 3/6
    • Fri 3/13
  • Students will be dismissed at 11:15am each day.  MS Afterschool is available through YWCA for any students in Grades 6-8 who would like to stay.
  • Additionally Thurs 3/19 is Citywide Half Day for 6-12 for Student-Led Conferences and Fri 3/20 No School for Eid

Applications are now open for NYC’s 2026 Summer Youth Employment Program

Midwinter Recess workshops for Middle School girls and High School girls

Girls Inc NYC is offering three separate workshops over the span of three different days, and you are welcome to join any that interest you! Please note: Each workshop will have two separate time slots for MS and HS!

Day 1| Feb 17th: Learn what is Credit? How to manage credit cards and build credit?

Day 2| Feb 18th: Learn how to Manage Money FOR & IN College

Day 3| Feb 19th: Learn about Future Planning & setting yourself up for success financially!

Middle Schoolers are expected to join from 9:30 am – 10:30 am

High Schoolers are expected to join from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

Summer Opportunity: 2026 School Construction Authority High School Summer Internship Program

The School Construction Authority High School Summer Internship Program is a six-week paid internship program (July 6th – August 14, 2026) with SCA departments and NYC business partners.  The program is designed to recruit & provide talented NYC public high school students grades 9-12 (preference given to 11th & 12th grades) with exposure & experiences in the construction industry, including but not limited to:

  • Architecture
  • Engineering
  • Construction management
  • Business &  public administration
