BCS stands in solidarity with the BLM at School coalition this week and every week

Dear BCS Students, Families and Staff,

Black Lives Matter at School is a national coalition organizing for racial justice in education.  The coalition encourages all educators, students, parents, unions, and community organizations to join the annual week of action during the first week of February each year.

We recognize this week (Feb 1-5, 2021) and commit to the national movement to bring action and awareness about Black Lives Matter in schools.  We plan to have a spring schoolwide expedition at BCS that further enhances the urgency and possibilities for advancing abolitionist practice and uprooting institutional racism.

Using the BLM at School curriculum and working with our GSA BLM Collective student club, we are organizing a series of Crew lessons over the spring about structural racism, intersectional black identities, black history, and anti-racist movements.  We will also have a week-long series on our BCS Instagram about BLM at School – check us out at thecollaborativechronicle!

We stand in solidarity with the BLM at School coalition this week and every week.  We commit to continued work with our staff, students, and families around anti-racist practices throughout the school year.  We firmly believe in the 13 principles of the BLM movement and seek to bring awareness to them in service of creating citizens who act on these beliefs and practices in their daily lives.

Sincerely,

Scill, Imani, Tracey and the BCS GSA BLM Collective Student Club/Staff Advisors
