June is a flurry of activity at Brooklyn Collaborative!
6/5 – Lower Grades Intensives are underway! Depending on their intensive, students are studying a variety of topics including: catapults, waterfront development, NYC street games, fishing, poetry, and much more! June is a time of intense fieldwork at Brooklyn Collaborative!
6/5 – Our Climbing Coordinator Laura and teacher Adam brought students to the climbing wall at the NYC Outward Bound Offices. This is the tallest outdoor climbing wall in the city!
6/5 – After the PTA meeting, we had a Self-Defense 101 workshop led by the Center for Anti-Violence Education.
6/6-8 – Our seniors went to Virginia for a packed 3-days of fun in our senior trip, led by senior advisors Helene, Tracey, and Jose. The fun was overflowing!
6/8 – Grade 9 students in Spanish I with Magen presented their final creative pieces as part of the Latinx case study, co-facilitated by teaching artist Jose Joaquin Garcia. Rm 505B was full of history and beats!
6/8 – Students in Melissa’s Spanish for Native and Heritage Speakers presented their thoughts on bicultural and bilingual education in the United States as part of their Spanish Mastery Passage PBATs.
6/8 – Active minded BCS staff staged a “red” walk-in to support Paid Family Leave. We are crew!
This week, the YWCA @ BCS hosted our first cook-off. This year’s theme was “Savory/Sweet Pancake Wars”. Several of our After-School students competed in this fun filled cook-off in hopes of winning AMC movie tickets.
