BCS + BNS Collaboration – Beth & Phil’s Climate Change Class: Students Take Action
- On Friday, June 7th, as part of the “Take Action” case study in Beth and Phil’s Climate Change class, students were encouraged to use their talents to make products that could educate others about the climate crisis and what they can do about it.
- Seniors Emily and Ysabella partnered to create a children’s book called Sammy Liu joins the Climate Patrol! which describes how Sammy becomes part of the a crew of children including a teacher, a hydrologist, a toxicologist and an ecologist, who use their powers to fight against climate change.
- Emily wrote the story and Ysabella provided the illustrations. They then shared it with BNS teacher Steve’s third grade class at BNS. Emily reached out to Steve since he was her third grade teacher.

Here are some photos from the Gowanus Blue Schools Design Competition on June 13th. For the past few months, William’s Ecology class and Brittany’s Architectural Design class have been following the Blue Schools curriculum and redesigning a space at BCS with green infrastructure to support the Gowanus watershed. Kaylee chose our roof and won the award for Best Design Process. Noah chose the current space where the dumpsters are and won the award for Most Transformative Design. They were both rockstars!
