We were happy to host almost two dozen foreign exchange students on April 3-4! Over the past six years, BCS has built a very strong relationship with students and staff from Tornbjerg Gymnasium, a progressive high school in Odense, Denmark. This collaboration began in 2012 as an exchange program between the music students, expanded to include students from Big History, and now intersects with many cross sections of the entire BCS community. We are grateful to all the BCS families and staff who opened their doors and hosted students for two evenings in an act of kindness!
This year, students from BCS presented about the college application experience while the Danish students presented about living in Denmark. Then students heard from a guest speaker who is a local community organizer about the challenging and changing American spirit, and all participants read articles and did a BBK workshop on tolerance and civil rights both in America and Europe. Then BCS Student Ambassadors led our visitors on a scavenger hunt of Red Hook, searching for clues on the streets and in the history of our neighboring community! Then some of our BCS English-language-learning students participated in a panel discussion with our guests about their journeys to America. Special thanks to teacher Stephen Simons for coordinating the visit. Everyone had a super time, for the sixth year in a row, in a true cultural immersion!
