4/8-12 – Highlights of the Week!

What a super busy week at Brooklyn Collaborative!

4/5 – During afterschool PD for our teachers, we held a student panel.  We were so eager to hear what students had to share about mastery grading and how they feel their identities are reflected in our school program and curriculum.

4/5 – Javier R (Class of 2018) supported with resume building today in Internship Seminar. It was an extreme pleasure to have him back supporting our interns!

4/5-7 – BCS hosted 20+ students from Tornbjerg Gymnasium, a progressive high school in Odense, Denmark. This collaboration between BCS and Tornbjerg began in 2012 as an exchange program between the music students, expanded to include students from Big History, and now intersects with many cross sections of the entire BCS community, especially our seniors.  Thank you to Stephen for his exceptional planning. Our guests enjoyed yoga with Arden’s classes, danced salsa with Jose’s class, heard from guest speaker Hawk Newsome about the BLM movement and American justice, listened to student presentations including hearing about how our ENL students have adjusted to learning English and American culture, presented about life in Denmark, shared Danish foods, toured Red Hook, canoed the Gowanus Canal, and much more. All students were hosted by a BCS student/family or staff member in their homes, and the kindness and collaboration were awesome.  Thank you to all who opened up your homes and gave generously of your time to round out the exchange.

4/6 – Our 9th grade students went to the BAM Word.Sound.Power poetry event!

4/7 – We had Lower Grades Mathlympics!  What a day of fun!  Check out our longer post here: https://www.smore.com/7k83e
