Election Day Tues 11/5 Parent Volunteers needed for PTA Bake SalePTA fundraiser for Election Day is planned for the BCS PTAHow to help: Volunteer for a shift on Tuesday 11/5  Donate food and drink items for the sale; baked goods, individual snacks, breakfast foods, hot food, drinks. 
Food + Supply Donations: *Non-perishable food items + supplies can be dropped off from 10/28 – 11/4 during school hours in Room 128If you’re heading to Costco, BJ’s or another grocery store please consider grabbing something for BCS. Granola bars, oatmeal cups, yogurt cups, chips, snacks, bottled water, baked goods etc. *Perishable food can be dropped off on Monday 11/4 from 9:00am to 3:30pm to Room 128 and Tuesday 11/5 in the main lobby starting at 6am.Email pta@bcs448.org if you have any questions.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

BCS Picture Day – Mon 11/4

  • All students should be photo ready!
  • All students will take a crew photo and all Grade 8 students will take photos for yearbook
  • For students in Grades 6-11 who want individual photos, there are two ways in which pictures can be ordered and paid for:
    • 1) Students were provided with a hard copy of the order form in their backpacks that can be filled out and cash brought in
    • 2) Parents can electronic order at www.YearbookInnovation.com – Click on Order MYPHOTO – Enter Keycode (Pre-pay code) : 24BCSUC – Parents can click on the active gallery to view and purchase picture packages and items.  Please print the receipt of the online order or write the confirmation number on a piece of paper and send it in with the student to present to the photographer in the auditorium on Picture Day. 
  • Note – Grade 12 Senior Pictures in cap and gown will be on Mon Nov 25

SLCs are coming up – you will hear from your child’s crew leader 

  • Student Led Conferences are coming up Thurs 11/21 evening and Fri 11/22 afternoon
  • Fri 11/22 is a half day – dismissal at 11:15am
  • Your child’s crew leader will reach out to you in the next few weeks to schedule an appointment for you and your child to attend conferences together to discuss progress so far

Update to NYC Public School Calendar – No School – Mon 12/23

  • Schools will now be closed on Monday, December 23rd, 2024, extending winter recess for the NYCPS through Wednesday, January 1st, 2025. 

Do you have a device at home to do school work?

  • Do you have a device at home, like a smartphone or other device, so that you can do school work in case of an emergency remote day, like a snow day?  This device should be able to access the internet so that you can submit work through Google Classroom and email your teachers.
  • If you need a device, please reach out to your crew leader.  
  • If you have previously been assigned a device or ipad from BCS or another school, you cannot be assigned an additional advice.  If your former device doesn’t work, please bring it in so it can be fixed or recycled properly.

  • Our partners at The Bell are offering two amazing youth podcasting opportunities through Miseducation and P.S. Weekly.
  • Through the programs you can: learn audio journalism skills, report on important education issues, work alongside professional journalists, earn up to $1000 stipend

America’s Field Trip Contest Application (Grades 6-12)

  • What does America mean to you?  You may answer this question with original artwork or a written response.
  • Submissions will be accepted until Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. ET. here
  • Middle School (6th to 8th Grade): Students may submit artwork, including physical or digital artwork (through a high-res photo), or a written response (up to 250 words).
  • High School (9th to 12th Grade): Students may submit artwork, including physical or digital artwork (through a high-res photo), or a written response (up to 500 words).
