BNS/BCS 610 Henry Street Campus Adult Chorus (for Staff and Parents)We are offering our Adult/ Family chorus every two weeks at 4:30pm (10/23, 11/6, 11/20, 12/4, 12/18) – contact sarahferholt@bns146.orgPlease join musician and educator Ali Dineen for a bi-monthly Family Chorus! We will meet every other Wednesday to learn songs in a variety of musical traditions, from simple rounds to traditional Greek tunes and beyond. Ali will also work to incorporate songs that members are excited about, from their own or any musical tradition. This chorus welcomes singers of all ages and experience, and will be a space to enjoy music with your and other families while also learning new songs and some music theory basics.

DOE – FACE Resource Fair Flyers with Families

  • The DOE is hosting a citywide family and community resource fair at Murry Bergtraum High School (411 Pearl Street; New York, NY 10038) from 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. on November 16; interested participants should register by November 15. The event will be a space for all school families to have fun and connect with NYCPS offices, community-based organizations, city agencies, cultural institutions, and more. 

DOE – Message from New Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos

DOE – Charter School Informational Mailings Notice and Removal Form

  • The DOE is offering students and families the ability to opt out of receiving charter school informational mailings produced by Vanguard. You may refuse mailings by completing and submitting the Charter School Informational Mailing Notice and Opt-Out Form by October 31. If your student is age 18 or older, they must complete the form themself. Once you submit, you will not need to do so again in future school years. 
  • You will need your student’s OSIS number (aka Student ID on the form). If you don’t know this number, please check Jumprope or contact your child’s crew leader.
  • If you need assistance completing the form, please contact Scill.
  • Note: If you miss this first deadline of October 31, you can still submit the form until the final deadline of January 15, 2025, to stop receiving promotional mailings after March 2025. 

No masks or prop weapons for Halloween

  • Reminder that students cannot wear masks that cover the entire face or have prop weapons for Halloween

  • If you are picking up your child early during the school day, please email your child’s crew leader in advance so the office can be notified
  • If you are picking up your child early during afterschool, please email L2@bcs448.org and YWCA Afterschool Director tholley@ywcanyc.org and make sure your student knows

Virtual High School Business Bootcamp

  • A Guide to Developing a Business Plan: Strategic Planning for Your New Business – Workshop Description: In order to get a business off the ground, a business person with a vision must also have a strategic plan; this is known as the Business Plan. This workshop will offer aspiring entrepreneurs the step-by-step process of developing a written business plan which will dramatically increase the likelihood of success.

Be a student poll worker (age 17+)

  • To participate in this program, you must meet the following requirements:
    • Be 17 years old by Election Day and get permission from school official and parent/guardian.
    • Be a U.S. Citizen.
    • Bilingual students fluent in Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Hindi and Bengali are encouraged to apply!
    • Attend school in New York City.
    • Have a GPA of at least 2.5 (B or 80).
    • Register to be a “future voter.”
  • Poll workers are required to attend a four hour training class; classes are available on Saturdays and Sundays at each borough office. You will be paid $100.00 for attending the class and passing the exam as well as working one election event.
  • On Election Day, if you are working the full day, report to your assigned polling place at 5:00AM and work until the polls close, you will be paid $250 for the full day. If you are assigned to the peak hour assistance shift, report to your assigned polling place at 3:00PM and work until the polling place closes, you will be paid $125.00.
  • The advantages to this program include:
    • Earn up to $600.00 to work two elections and take the training class.
    • Get job experience for your resume: shows both colleges and potential employers you have a record of responsibility, teamwork and leadership.
    • Fulfill school requirements: hours worked may count toward your school’s community service graduation requirements.
    • Learn about the election process first-hand.

Tisch Future Artists (HS)

  • Future Artists is a free, 14-week program for high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Full-day classes and workshops take place on Saturdays throughout the spring academic semester. Choose from disciplines, including Dance, Photography, Dramatic Writing, Recorded music, and more. You’ll study with Tisch faculty and connect with aspiring artists like you.  
  • The NYU Tisch Spring Future Artists Program is a pre-college program that is FREE of charge, open to all eligible students, and centered on educational opportunities in studying in the arts with the same rigor and training offered in the undergraduate departments. It is designed for students who may not have access to other programs in their schools and/or communities and who would qualify for financial aid at NYU.
