When School Ends, Why Stop Then?
YWCA-NYC @ BCS After School Program Weekly Update!:
This week the students in after school were busy doing homework, experimenting, acting, dancing, cooking, gardening, blogging, knitting, jumping double-dutch, playing basketball, exploring alternate worlds, and going on field trips.
In Theater students are rehearsing monologues and scenes. Students are doing sketches and portraits in Studio Art and they have been putting the finishing touches on their first blog posts in Photojournalism & Blogging. Our dancers are rehearsing choreography by Ashley Lee. Our engineering students are learning about concussions and the importance of helmets, and they are testing their own helmet designs.
As the weather starts to change, students are finishing up their chores in the garden and starting to transition into the student kitchen. Our students just made apple granola bars in the student kitchen.Yum!
There are student led clubs ranging from Spanish, Fashion, and Basketball, to International Cooking, Double Dutch, and Sci-Fi/Fantasy. After School also offers daily academic support and homework help. Staff are reaching out to teachers to make sure we have the most up to date homework assignments and a list of students’ missing assignments. The YWCA @ BCS after school program is still accepting new students so come on by to pick up an application and see what we have to offer!
