BCS Internship Program

Work: Life Experience and a Key Credential for College Admission

All BCS juniors have the pivotal life experience of working as interns in a business, government agency or non-profit organization. The program is choice-driven: interns are trained to interview for jobs they want so they are motivated to succeed. 92% of the BCS class of 2014 met basic workplace protocols (kindness, responsibility, persistence and collaboration and punctuality).

As seniors, BCS students leverage their work experience with the college application process, making them strong competitors with students from across the country.

From Interns to Economic Actors

Our internship program connects students to the economic mainstream. Each year, BCS hires and trains a team of seniors with a proven job-getting track record, to run an in-house, student-led employment agency: the BCS Employment Initiative. This team helps younger peers parlay their internship experience to paid employment.

Success: Over 63% of the class of 2014 either had summer jobs or enrolled in a college prep program — double the 29% national teen employment rate for summer 2013.
Institutionalizing BCS’ Culture of Employment
The BCS Internship Program Model Job Fair celebrates intern achievements and the investment of supervisor-mentors. The interns also lead their 9th and 10th peers in practice interviews while the supervisors evaluate.
