9/29 – Dear BCS Students and Families, we hope you’ve had a great weekend!  Can’t believe we’re already one month down for the school year!

Math Homework nightly 

  • All students should now have their IXL accounts. We’ve set new students’ passwords to their OSIS number.  Students should practice skills for their grade level for 30 min each night.
  • If students go to ixl.com/signin/bcs448 they can just use the “Sign in with Google” feature and they don’t need to enter their username or password.

BCS/BNS Unity Fest Fundraiser is Sat Oct 19 in our cafeteria/gym/yard

  • Please join us, especially if you have younger children – this is a joint fundraiser hosted by BCS and our sister elementary school Brooklyn New School
  • All are welcome – food, games, crafts, etc.

No phones and no earpods

  • Reminder that no electronics are permitted to be used in classes – MS students have their phones collected at the beginning of the day, HS students have their phones collected every period
  • No earpods can be in student ears – no earbuds, no headphones on ears
  • Please be sure to respect the electronics policy to have a distraction-free learning environment

Parents – please let us know if you’re picking up your child early

  • If you are picking up your child early during the school day, please email your child’s crew leader in advance so the office can be notified
  • If you are picking up your child early during afterschool, please email L2@bcs448.org and make sure your student knows

High School clubs have started – Mon-Fri at 3:05pm (open to all Grades 9-12)

  • Clubs available now: Cooking, Crochet, SAT/PSAT Prep, Art, Music, Drama, Cosmetology, Gaming!!!!  Join us!!!  Bring a classmate!

Tues Tiers Support

  • Students who want academic support are invited to stay with their teachers every Tuesday afterschool from 3:05-4pm
  • Please check in with your teachers 

BCS Newspaper – The Collaborative Chronicle

  • The newspaper will be meeting next on Tuesday October 1st in Office 516 and meets every Tuesday afterschool from 3:15- 3:50pm.  Any students in Grades 6-12 who like writing, drawing, taking photos or interviewing are welcome to join the Collaborative Chronicle staff. BCS Student Union

  • The Student Union will have its first meeting on Tuesday, October 15th, at 3:20pm in Office 516.  Meetings will happen every two weeks on Tuesdays after school.  Here is the link to sign up: https://forms.gle/d4obXr8fnVV6smiR8 – Students must be logged into their BCS email to access the forms.  All students welcome!

Rosetta Stone available to all BCS students

  • Want to study a new language for free?  Open to all BCS students for enrichment and for MLL students learning English.  
  • To sign up: Please email Chloe@bcs448.org from your BCS email address with the language you want to study.  Chloe will send you an email from Rosetta Stone with your log in and password. 
  • All study is done online – you need a BCS email address, Internet connection, a computer with speakers, and headphones to take the course independently.  
  • Brooklyn Collaborative emphasizes cross-cultural competence for success in the 21st century and encourages all community members to strive to be multilingual.  BCS is committed to developing students and staff who are kind, openminded, persistent, responsible, and courageous.  At BCS, students learn to apply their intellect and effort to benefit themselves and their community.

Soft Lockdown Drills – Notification to Families

  • We practice a variety of safety drills including soft lockdowns and evacuation drills, in accordance with NYC Public Schools safety guidelines.
  • We have scheduled two soft lockdown drills for the fall – teachers will go over proper procedures with students in class
    • Wed 10/2 – soft lockdown – 1:50pm
    • Tues 10/8 – soft lockdown – 1:50pm

BCS/BNS PAC Meeting of the year on Monday, September 30th at 8 pm via Zoom.

  • Want to get involved with other parent advocates and activists and influence NYC Public School policies.  Join the joint BNS/BCS Parent Political Action Committee.
  • First meeting – Mon 9/30 at 8pm in Zoom
