ANNOUNCEMENTS
Students have Zoom class every day
- This week, students will have a Zoom class every day beginning at 9am. Crew leaders will email your child the schedule each day.
- This week, students have three periods of Zoom a day and three periods of self-directed asynchronous independent learning in Google Classroom each day.

Attendance is taken in Zoom class every day – be on time with cameras on
- This year, DOE attendance policy is that a student is marked present if they are present in their synchronous portion of their remote day – that means students are required to attend Zoom classes (with video on) in order to be marked present.
- School is everyday from 9:00AM-2:30PM. Our period times are listed here. On your remote learning days, when you do not have Zoom classes, that period is spent in self-directed asynchronous (independent) learning using Google Classroom.
Pupilpath will be up later this week
- All students will receive an email to their BCS student email accounts on Wed 9/23 evening with a registration code to PupilPath. The email will also include a parent registration code.
- All previous logins/passwords are valid.
- PupilPath allows parents and students to view student attendance records, class schedule, assignment due dates and grades, graduation progress, school announcements, and more.
Operoo
- We are using a new platform this year called Operoo. This allows us to digitize all forms that we normally have families fill out at the beginning of the year, like blue card, photo consent, etc.
- Families should look out for an email from Operoo later this week with login information.

All of our classrooms are set up for pod in-person blended learning
- Our hardworking staff have cleaned and set-up all the pod classrooms based on social distancing requirements, and we’re ready for in-person blended learning to begin!

DOE Health Screening
- All students should bookmark this important website: https://healthscreening.schools.nyc/
- Students need to fill out this survey before entering the building on each of their blended in-person days and show their form to entry staff and School Safety to enter the building
- Practice filling out the form daily to speed up entry
- Students should also add it to their homescreen on their phones
DOE ANNOUNCEMENTS
DOE announces delayed in-person opening for schools
- The Mayor recently delayed school opening so that in-person learning for middle/high school students do not start until Thurs 10/1 (instead of the previous start date Mon 9/21). BCS will continue to have remote learning in Zoom and Google Classroom every day.
Learning Bridges Update
- The Learning Bridges program will provide childcare options for parents of students in grades 3K–8, on days when they are scheduled for remote learning. The Learning Bridges childcare is only available to students who are registered for blended learning, and will only be available on the days that students are scheduled for remote learning. The Learning Bridges program will be operated by community-based organizations (CBOs) and other partners under contract with the DOE for early childhood students, or Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) for K–8 students.
- Updated Learning Bridges Start Dates are as follows:
- The Learning Bridges program will launch for 3-K and pre-K children beginning September 21.
- The Learning Bridges for students in K–8 grades will launch along with the start of in-person/blended learning for elementary students on September 29 (in-person/blended learning for middle school students begins on October 1); seats will be added on a rolling basis throughout the fall, and families will be notified as more seats become available.

ENGAGE WITH YOUR FAMILY
| Our schoolwide expedition for the first two weeks of school revolves around the Essential Question: What does it mean to belong? – The expedition focuses on the importance of being part of a community AND how to use essential tech tools/platforms to be successful this year. Watch an overview of the expedition here.
Talk with your family about what you’ve been learning so far in Crew and in your Google Classroom. Show them a new tech skill you’ve learned! Families can join the learning here – here’s an activity students did last week: Learning Target: I can describe the benefits and responsibilities that come along with “belonging.” Watch or read one of the videos / articles linked below. The videos also have a transcript if you prefer to read them. Discuss with your family the text you read/watched and what you believe the benefits and responsibilities are that come with “belonging”!

- Our Academic Year Immersion program offers academic course offerings listed. We also provide expansive extracurricular workshops and student life activities designed to foster a collaborative environment for students to connect with peers who share similar interests.

YWCA Afterschool is starting for Grades 6-8
- Afterschool starts 9/21 (Free, Grades 6-8)

- Students experience academic and recreational activities, fully supervised and socially distanced, on their in-person blended learning days from 2:30-5:30pm
- They will also have remote programming for students on remote days so you do not need to attend in-person, you can choose the activities you would like to participate in

No Visitors to the Building
- As per DOE policy, for health and safety reasons, no visitors to the building are allowed. All family meetings will be held on Zoom. Families who come to the building will remain at the School Safety desk and will call upstairs for their questions.
- Due to limited staffing, we have closed our Main Office – please call 718-923-4700 x4163 or 646-483-8644 (Scill) if you need to reach the school.
Amazon Wish List Updated
- Please support our BCS Amazon Wish List – we are in need of materials to support with remote learning, fans to improve circulation of air, and outdoor lunch/class
- We have updated the list based on purchased items, thank you for your generosity!
COVID testing for in-person students – please get tested!
- We strongly encourage all students who are in blended learning to get tested for COVID before returning to the building.
- Since the coronavirus can be contagious in children and adults without symptoms, frequent testing is one important way to feel more confident that you are not carrying or spreading the infection. We are in this together! Testing is free for all New Yorkers. You can get a COVID test at any of these locations listed here.
- Our return to schools is based on everyone doing their part to keep each other healthy.
- If you do test positive, you should seek medical advice and care immediately and note that you will not be able to return to school until cleared by a doctor in accordance with DOE protocol.
- Thank you for making this decision to help protect your health and the health of all of our BCS students, staff, and families.
Free meals for all New Yorkers
- The New York City Department of Education is committed to making free meals available daily for any New Yorker. Any New Yorker who wants one can get free meals at more than 400 Meal Hubs across the city.
- Meals can be picked up at all Meal Hubs 7:30 am to 1:30 pm, Monday through Friday
- Meals Hubs will operate for children and families from 7:30 am to 11:30 am, and for adults from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm
- No one will be turned away at any time
- All adults and children can pick up multiple meals at one time
- Vegetarian and halal options available at all sites
- No dining space is available, so meals must be eaten off premises
- Parents and guardians may pick up meals for their children
- No registration or ID required
