Dear Students and Families,
We wanted to let you know that our proposed re-opening model was approved by the DOE today so we can begin to program (see below for a visual of our model). As you know, the model is for blended students to be assigned to either a Mon/Tues pod or a Thurs/Fri pod for their in-school days. On Weds, Students with Disabilities, Multi-Language Learners, and Students in Temporary Housing will have first priority for an additional half-day morning of instruction.
There is still missing information from the DOE before we can solidly know our program/schedule. This includes staff who have applied for medical accommodations (about three-quarters of the staff have received notification so far from the DOE). This also includes the DOE’s requirements for how students with disabilities will be programmed and Special Education compliance/policies.
We hope to notify all families/students of their schedule (days/classes/teachers/schedule) beginning the week of August 31. On their remote learning days, students will have an assigned schedule of live classes to attend – attendance at live classes is required. We are currently aiming for the school day to be 9am-2:30pm. Blended learning students will have a full day of courses from 9am-2:30pm including lunch during their on-site days. Students in all-remote or on their remote learning days will have approximately 2-3 live classes each day (about 50 min each, occurring between 9am-2:30pm – the rest of the time will be asynchronous self-directed learning using Google Classroom).
We will continue to update our Frequently Asked Questions document, which is linked opens in a new windowhere and on our website opens in a new windowbcs448.org.
If you have any questions, please let us know.
Take care,
Scill and Imani
