6/17-21 – Highlights of the Week!

6/17 – Salesforce donated tote bags, books, and school supplies to all 700 of our students.  Thank you, Salesforce, for your consistent allyship!

6/17 – On the last day of classes, seniors received the compilation of all the Class of 2019 narratives in their ELA 12 class with Andrew and Chrissy – a treasured artifact of their experience at BCS, creating lasting memories of all the peers.  The BCS PTA generously contributes to the cost of printing the books.

June Intensives continue with adventures around the city!

6/20 – The 8th grade dance was spectacular!  Thanks to Christina B, Christina T and all the 8th grade teachers for making this night so special.

BCS + BNS Collaboration – Beth & Phil’s Climate Change Class: Students Take Action

  • On Friday, June 7th, as part of the “Take Action” case study in Beth and Phil’s Climate Change class, students were encouraged to use their talents to make products that could educate others about the climate crisis and what they can do about it.
  • Seniors Emily and Ysabella partnered to create a children’s book called Sammy Liu joins the Climate Patrol! which describes how Sammy becomes part of the a crew of children including a teacher, a hydrologist, a toxicologist and an ecologist, who use their powers to fight against climate change.
  • Emily wrote the story and Ysabella provided the illustrations. They then shared it with BNS teacher Steve’s third grade class at BNS. Emily reached out to Steve since he was her third grade teacher.
  • Check out the link for the book:

6/20 – We celebrated our ENL teacher, Michele Rayvid, who works with both BNS and BCS students.  Michele is retiring, and we wish her the best of luck in her new adventures!

6/21 – The 8th grade promotion ceremony was beautiful.  So proud of all our students for promoting into high school!

6/21 – Senior graduation for the Class of 2019 was incredible!  We are so proud of our seniors for reaching this incredible milestone and making their way towards their individual post-secondary journeys.  We are SO proud of you, Class of 2019!

Here are some photos from the Gowanus Blue Schools Design Competition on June 13th. For the past few months, William’s Ecology class and Brittany’s Architectural Design class have been following the Blue Schools curriculum and redesigning a space at BCS with green infrastructure to support the Gowanus watershed. Kaylee chose our roof and won the award for Best Design Process. Noah chose the current space where the dumpsters are and won the award for Most Transformative Design. They were both rockstars!
