10/1 - This week, students in our BCS YWCA After-School Program made delicious empanadas! Several of our students enjoyed prepping and cooking these delicious bites for the after-school program. They learned about accurate cooking measurements, seasoning, and how to shape empanadas perfectly! We also hosted a small mini basketball challenge! Several of our 6th and 7th graders enjoyed participating in this friendly competition and also learned team building skills along the way.
10/1 - 6th grade musicians gave each other Glows and Grows about their original rhythm compositions.
10/2 - Our annual EL Education Beginning of Year meeting took place, with teacher-leaders, student representatives, admin, parents, and NYC Outward Bound staff. This meeting helps us get a baseline on our school goals as outlined in our work plan/CEP. Everyone looked at the available data sources and collaborated on next steps to help us make progress towards our benchmarks.
10/2 - Our computer lab was packed afters chool, as 11th graders prepped for their trailer premieres. We had about 50 students come for after school help for US History. We had 2 experts in, Cecelia and Ashish, who helped students edit and give feedback.
10/3 - Groundswell came at lunch to recruit students for their mural programs, and we had so many students sign up!
10/4 - In preparation for College Application Week, the College Office arranged for a special assembly for the Class of 2019 with our CUNY Representative. Students had the opportunity to hear first hand about the application process and the wonderful opportunities at the City University of New York.
10/4 - We had our first LG Expeditionary Thursday, with 6th graders exploring Prospect Park and ecosystems, 7th graders exploring the city as part of their ELA dystopian literature case study, and 8th graders conducting the "Barbie Bungee" experiment in Math. 10/4 - Students in Computer Science had a fun exploration of specificity in coding with the hilarious "Peanut Butter and Jelly" lesson. Thanks, Brian and Scott!

10/5 - Baruch College student, Chokey Tenzin, leads a discussion about political involvement and change as part of Brooklyn Collaborative’s 3rd year with NYC Council program Generation Citizen. Our partnership teachers are Stephen and Tamika!
10/5 - Students in Architectural Drafting with Brittany, while finding and sketching “repetition” in the neighborhood, got to meet Spike Lee (who was filming around the school)!
10/5 - Our New Families Potluck was a lot of fun - games, conversation, and food to build new connections at Brooklyn Collaborative!
