This past week (Jan 9 to Jan 13), we held our day-long climbing and team building trips for our HOWLers. The HOWLers trip is our annual tradition to champion a positive student culture and to celebrate our core values, in line with EL Education Core Principles. HOWLers received invitations to attend the event if they are shouted out by teachers for demonstrating strong habits of work and learning and modeling our core values.
Each day consisted of a 2-hour climbing experience supported by NYC Outward Bound Schools staff at the Brooklyn Boulders Queensbridge indoor climbing wall. Students learned about challenging themselves by choice and about pushing themselves out of their comfort zones. Then students transitioned to the NYC Outward Bound Schools offices in Long Island City for lunch and team building activities in the afternoon. Students learned about teamwork and leadership and how to transfer the day’s experience back to school. A tremendous success all around! Go HOWLers!
