On 11/3, at our monthly Family Breakfast, students from the Real Stories in Print and Media class performed two short pieces. In the last month, our students have been devising their own plays in the style of newspaper theater, a technique created by Augusto Boal in his “Theater of the Oppressed.” Students researched newspaper articles, headlines, books and speeches to create two plays: One about DACA and the Dreamers, and the other a comparison of quotes by Obama and Trump. As students revised the plays, they rehearsed their parts and worked on the staging to best convey the meaning of their lines. Students were so excited to present these works in progress as Readers Theater to our parents!
