Here are some highlights of the week!
6th grade had a great Town Hall on Friday – positive, fun, and informative, led by Josh and Glen’s crews!
7th grade Social Studies PBAT roundtables were a success! The students were nervous and excited to talk to school staff, parents, and high schoolers about their learning and the PBAT writing process. Alex and Glen were so proud to see the students passionately explaining their positions, and especially enjoyed hearing students continue to discuss the topic of La Malinche and the conquest, explaining the sources and images on the table, even after the formal roundtable had ended.
Our 7th grade band continues to practice with persistence every other day with teacher/band leader Christine P!
Our BCS Library staff (Library Media Specialists Amanda C and Susan) continue to match awesome books to our students. Here is the first book review in our Library Podcast Club – https://itunes.apple.com/us/
On Fri 12/1, we held our monthly Family Breakfast around the theme of mindfulness and helping students to manage stress. Counselor Deb set up a calming centerpiece (similar to what is used in student crews) for parents.
On Tues 11/28, we hosted four other schools (ALC- Park Place, Opportunity Charter School, South Bronx Community Charter School, and EPIC High School) all day in an intervisitation focused on sharing best practices around restorative practices. Guests did walkthroughs in academic classes and crews, participated in a student and staff panel, and learned about our staff crew and crewlympics structures to build community.
