In 2015, Brooklyn Collaborative and Brooklyn New School, in conjunction with NYC Councilmember Brad Lander, community members and youth activists created our Dance Fitness Studio with funds from Participatory Budgeting. We recognize the power of civic participation, and we are grateful for a democratic process that brings greater resources to our students. Because of the kindness and generosity of Participatory Budgeting, our students and staff have a beautiful space to promote healthy habits.
We had a wonderful ribbon cutting ceremony today – Wed Jan 10 at 10am!
Students, staff, families, and community members joined us to inaugurate our first dedicated space for movement: the 610 Henry Dance Fitness Studio, with City Councilmember Brad Lander, Max Drury (the student who made the original proposal for participatory budgeting), and dance and yoga and theatre teachers and students in our two schools. For videos of performances, please see the extended album.
